Our volunteers are the beating heart of Breast Cancer Support.

For over thirty years, our volunteers have given BCS the gift of their time, helping us to provide our community support services to women experiencing breast cancer. The value of peer support is now widely recognised as an important part of a recovery from breast cancer. As a BCS volunteer, your time, expertise, and sharing can help to make another woman's journey a little easier.

Many of our volunteers join us because they want to give back after recovering from their own breast cancer diagnosis, and help others who find themselves facing this life challenge. Some of these women received support from BCS during their own journey, and know the value of being able to talk to someone who has 'been there too' and understands how it can be.

As with most charitable organisations, we are always looking for more volunteers - and joining BCS can be personally rewarding. Below are some ways you can help - please call us on 0800 273 222 or contact us for more information.

The BCS Committee
You don't need to have had breast cancer to be on our governing Committee. If you have time, a skill to share (for example, accounting, social media/publicity/media experience, event organisation, or something else - let's talk about it!), or just an interest in guiding a vibrant organisation into the future, we would love to hear from you. (Where you live in New Zealand is no problem - we use Skype to bring in volunteers from other parts of the country).

Support Group Coordinators
BCS has a number of support groups in Auckland and nationwide. We are always looking for women to run these groups and set up new ones. We have an in-house, annual peer support training/refresher programme in place conducted by professional facilitators and counselors.
It is preferable to have had a diagnosis of breast cancer at least two years ago but if you haven't had breast cancer and would like to help out in this area, please let us know.
If this sounds like you, please give us a call. This would be a monthly commitment (running the meeting, 1-2 hours) with some administrative work too (maybe one hour per month).

Volunteer Visitors
Sometimes women prefer not to attend a support group. They would prefer to meet with another woman one-to-one, in a local cafe, or in hospital, or speak to someone on the phone. Our Visitors make these visits and calls for us, traveling within their own local areas (we provide petrol vouchers). Full training is given (training/refresher training is conducted annually by a qualified counselor/educator) and two years post diagnosis is preferred. Our Visitors are not called upon too often, so this role would suit you if you had limited time to give. (Auckland-based preferred but could be in other parts of the country making telephone 'visits'). For more information, please call us on 0800 273 222, or contact us.

Thank you.
